Hair Transplant
What can I do about my hair loss?

At The Hair Restoration Institute, we realize that every patient has unique needs and goals. Therefore each patient's treatment plan is customized, based on age, general health, and cosmetic expectations. Our goal is to create an overall "Hair Loss Solution" for our patients.

Permanent lifetime hair is available at the back of the scalp in nearly everyone, even the severely bald men.

Why am I losing my hair?

Androgenic Alopecia is the scientific name for Male Pattern Baldness (MPB). This is the cause of thinning hair in 95% of balding men. MPB occurs in predictable stages, and is relentlessly progressive. Usually the earlier in life the hair loss begins the more advanced the pattern will ultimately become.

In MPB the hair on top of the scalp have a genetic sensitivity to the male hormone Dihydro Testosterone (DHT). The hair on the sides and back of the head do not possess this sensitivity to DHT and therefore are not affected. For this reason, the hair removed from the back of the head (Donor hair) will continue to grow for a life time, when transplanted.

The hair loss in females tends to be more diffuse and less predictable. The same hair transplant option is also applicable to women. We also restore eyebrows, lost or damaged due to over plucking, or injury.

The Hair Transplant procedure

At The Hair Restoration Institute we perform the state of the art procedure of Follicular Unit Hair Grafting. We use advanced hair restoration techniques to achieve the ultimate results. The procedure involves three steps.

1. Removing a narrow strip of hair follicles from the back of the scalp under local anesthesia.
2. Separating the hair into 1, 2, and 3 haired groups called follicular units.
3. Transplanting these follicular units precisely into small incisions in a natural growth pattern on the front and top of the head.

The graft survival rate is typically over 95%. The procedure usually takes 4-6 hours to perform. You will be given sedation, and even though you are awake, you will have no memory of the procedure later on. During the procedure you may listen to music or watch a DVD. Most patients return to work after 3 days. The hair will begin to grow in 6 weeks and you will see full results in 12-15 months. You may need a haircut for your new hair in 6-9 months.
